Then, one chilly afternoon, as the first snowflakes began to fall, I received a call at the office. « Hello? » I answered, balancing the phone between my shoulder and ear as I typed.
« Hi, it’s Anna, » the voice on the other end said, a mix of excitement and nervousness.
« Anna! How are you? » I asked, surprised and pleased to hear from her.
« We’re okay, » she replied. « I just wanted to say thank you again. And… we might need some help. »
My heart skipped a beat, a mix of concern and anticipation. « Of course. What do you need? »
« It’s my mom, » she said, her voice dropping. « She’s been sick, and we’re not sure what to do. »
The worry in her voice was palpable. « Alright, » I said, my mind already racing with possibilities. « Let me see what I can do. Can I call you back in a bit? »
« Yeah, » Anna agreed, relief evident in her tone. « Thank you. »
After hanging up, I immediately reached out to a few contacts I knew, trying to find resources and support for Anna’s family. It was a small gesture, but I hoped it would make a difference.
The call had reignited a sense of purpose within me, a reminder of the interconnectedness of our lives.
