After the meeting, I returned to my desk, the email still fresh in my mind. I decided to do some digging of my own, starting with a call to the design team. The phone rang once, twice, before a familiar voice answered.
« Hey, it’s me, » I said, keeping my tone light. « I had a quick question about the card design. » There was a pause, the kind that stretches longer than it should.
« Sure, what do you need to know? » came the reply, cautious and careful.
« I noticed my name was on the latest draft, » I said, trying to sound casual. « Just curious how that happened. »
« Oh, that, » the voice on the other end said, a hint of relief seeping in. « We were trying out new layouts, and your name was just a placeholder. It should have been changed before it went out, but it slipped through the cracks. »
« Thanks, » I said, hanging up, my curiosity far from satisfied. There had to be a reason why my name was used, and I intended to find out.
