I found these strange objects among my grandmother’s belongings. There were more than 30 of them, and they had an unusual shape…

When we talk about fashion from past decades , we ca n’t forget the legendary perm rollers – the ones that transformed straight hair into beautiful curls.

At the beginning of the 20th century, they were simple cylinders made of metal or plastic . Nothing very special — and yet, this is how an era began in which earrings became a symbol of femininity and style.

The real evolution of hair rollers began in the 1950s – 1960s . Flexible shapes , various sizes and new materials appeared – making it possible to adapt the method to all hair types.

These advanced tools made hairstyling easier and offered more freedom to create different styles.

In the 1980s and 1990s, hair rollers experienced a true golden age : large, voluminous curls were in fashion, and the perm became almost essential for all fashionistas.

The process was n’t simple: washing the hair, rolling it onto the rollers, applying the product, then neutralizing it. But the result was worth it. The size of the rollers directly influenced the shape of the curls- from tight ringlets to soft waves.

At that time, perms were no longer reserved for salons. Thanks to home kits , any woman could give herself a perm in her own bathroom — with a little patience and care.

Today, fashion is more diverse, and perms are less popular. But vintage curlers have n’t been forgotten. Stylists still use them to create retro looks inspired by past decades.
