« And what about me? » I asked, my voice small in the vastness of the question.

There was a pause, the silence stretching out like a chasm between us. « She did this to protect you, » Jonathan finally said, his voice soft, almost apologetic. « She wanted you to have a chance to build your own life, without the weight of her world on your shoulders. »
