“Why didn’t you tell me?” I asked, the question hanging heavy in the air.

“But now it’s more than just worry, isn’t it?” I said, the edge to my words unintentional but undeniable.

They nodded, the admission silent but palpable. We sat there, the table between us a metaphorical divide that needed bridging.

“We’ll need to meet with the lawyer,” I stated, shifting the focus to practicalities. “And I want to be involved from now on.”

“Of course,” they agreed, a hint of relief in their voice. “I won’t hide anything from you again.”
