Twenty-three minutes later, my phone began ringing so violently it slid across the cup holder.

It was Carol.

I looked at the screen.

Then at Rachel.

Then back at the phone.

“Are you going to answer?”

I smiled slightly.

“Oh, absolutely.”

I pressed speakerphone.

Carol didn’t even say hello.

“Have you lost your mind?”

Her voice exploded through the car.
