I WENT TO PICK UP MY WIFE AND OUR NEWBORN TWIN GIRLS FROM THE HOSPITAL

To a woman who had just carried twins for nine months. Who had swollen ankles and sleepless nights. Who had cried when she heard their heartbeats.

I felt sick.

“She begged me not to tell you,” Mom continued. “She said it would break you. But I thought you deserved the truth.”

“There was no truth!” I shouted. “Just your suspicion!”

The babies started crying louder now. Both of them.
