I delivered the eulogy.

And now an eight-year-old boy was standing ten feet away from me with Danny’s eyes.

Once I saw it, I couldn’t stop seeing it.

The same gray-blue color.

The same stubborn angle of the chin.

The same habit of pressing his lips together when he was frightened.

I sat down slowly.

“Sarah,” I said, “come sit with us.”

Her attention immediately shifted to Noah.

“Noah, sweetheart, I told you to wait by the restroom.”
