“Would you mind telling me the groom’s full name?”
Patricia looked at me strangely.
“Adrian Parker. Why?”
My heart pounded.
“Because I was supposed to be his wife.”
Her face went pale.
I explained everything in a few quiet sentences. The engagement. The accident. The funeral. The closed casket.
Patricia stared at me as if I’d told her a ghost had walked into the building.
“Oh my God,” she whispered. “I didn’t know.”
“I don’t think many people do.”
