The boy took one step closer.
“Please don’t get in your car yet.”
I looked at him.
“Why?”
He glanced across the parking lot again before lowering his voice.
“Your husband is paying me to watch you.”
For a second, I thought I had heard him incorrectly.
Then I laughed.
It was a short, startled laugh rather than one of amusement.
“I think you have the wrong woman.”
