First: Understand What a “Bleach Stain” Really Is
Calling it a stain is convenient, but technically the term can be misleading.
A normal stain usually means something has been deposited onto the textile. If tomato sauce lands on a white shirt, for example, pigments and other substances from the sauce become trapped in or on the fibers.
A suitable cleaning process attempts to remove those substances.
Chlorine bleach works differently.
Its bleaching action can chemically alter colored compounds in textile dyes. As those compounds change, the affected area loses some or all of its original color.
That is why a bleach mark often becomes lighter rather than darker.
