3. General Abdominal Pain or Swelling
In some cases, liver disease causes more widespread abdominal discomfort rather than pain isolated to one location.
Advanced liver problems may lead to fluid accumulation inside the abdomen, a condition called ascites.
Ascites May Cause:
- bloating,
- tightness,
- abdominal heaviness,
- difficulty moving comfortably,
- shortness of breath from pressure.
The abdomen may appear visibly swollen or stretched.
This symptom is more commonly associated with advanced liver disease or cirrhosis.
4. Skin Irritation and Itching
Liver problems can also affect the skin in surprising ways.
When bile flow becomes impaired—a condition called cholestasis—substances normally eliminated by the liver may build up in the bloodstream.
This can trigger intense itching throughout the body.
