“Cops Slammed My Husband Onto the Hood—Then I Pulled Out My FBI Badge”…

The officer introduced himself as Steven Mercer and claimed Marcus had been “weaving.” It was such a weak lie that it nearly insulted his own imagination. Marcus remained calm and asked one simple question: “Can you tell me where I crossed the line?” Mercer did not answer. He asked for license and registration, then ordered Marcus to step out of the car.

I felt the temperature of the night shift.

Marcus looked at me once before opening the door. Not afraid. Just tired in a way that made me angrier than fear ever could have. He stepped out slowly, narrating every movement so there could be no excuse, no misunderstanding, no room for invention. Mercer grabbed his arm anyway. When Marcus asked why he was being handled, Mercer slammed him hard against the hood, crushing his cheek against the metal and tearing his shirt at the shoulder. I heard the impact before I fully realized I was already opening my own door.

Marcus shouted that he was cooperating.

Mercer shouted louder that he was resisting.

That is how men like him start building their alibi while the bruise is still forming.
