“Claire,” Frank said, upset, “turn that car around right now.”
I did not respond immediately.
Mia was still crying softly in the back seat.
“Frank,” I said, keeping my voice calm, “Eleanor said there was no room.”
There was silence on the line.
Then a chair moved in the background.
“She said what?”
Before I could repeat it, I heard Frank call across the room, “Eleanor, where are Claire and Mia?”
