She uses a walker now. Blue one, with a little basket on the front where she keeps her coupons.
Last Tuesday she was crossing the Walmart parking lot when three guys in their twenties started laughing at how slow she walked.
One of them said “move it, grandma.” Then he kicked the walker right out from under her hands.
She hit the pavement. Cracked her wrist and split her lip on the concrete.
They filmed it. They actually stood there filming my 82-year-old mother bleeding on the asphalt, laughing, saying she should watch where she’s going.
Then they walked into the store like nothing happened.
I found out from the hospital. When I got there and saw her face, something in me broke. She kept apologizing. Apologizing. Like it was her fault.
The police said without ID on the men, there wasn’t much they could do. The store said the camera angle didn’t catch it clean.
