The promise that a simple powder can remove cataracts in two minutes and allow older adults to throw away their reading glasses is an attractive social-media claim, but it does not reflect how cataracts actually develop or how they are treated. There is currently no proven household powder, drink, spice, or food that can instantly dissolve an established cataract and restore clear vision.
A cataract develops when the normally transparent lens inside the eye becomes cloudy. As the lens becomes less clear, light does not pass through it normally, which can lead to blurry or hazy vision, faded colors, glare, halos around lights, difficulty reading, and problems seeing at night. Cataracts usually develop gradually, particularly with aging.
Some nutritional choices may support overall eye health, but they should not be confused with cataract treatment. Foods containing antioxidants and nutrients can be part of a healthy diet, while protecting the eyes from excessive ultraviolet exposure, avoiding smoking, managing diabetes, and maintaining good cardiovascular health can also contribute to long-term eye health.
