The Death That Never Happened

Dad’s tone became noticeably colder.

“Especially the part about dividing my property.”

Vanessa began stumbling over her explanation.

“We—we were told—”

“By whom?”

She didn’t answer. Dad glanced at me before asking the question that made the silence even heavier.

“You found papers in my office, didn’t you?”

Again, Vanessa said nothing.

“Those weren’t my final documents.”

Grant cursed quietly in the background. Dad remained composed as he delivered the information they clearly hadn’t expected.
