My Daughter Left for School Smiling Like Any Other Morning—By Nightfall, Our World Had Changed Forever

The last thing I said to my fourteen-year-old daughter that morning was the same thing I always said.

« Love you. Have a great day. »

She smiled from the front porch, adjusted her backpack, and waved before climbing onto the school bus.
