“I Told Her to Go Dance With Another Man — Her Comeback Left Me Standing There Like an Idiot”

Farm next door. Same property line since before either of us was born. She runs her place solo too — horses, a garden, a roadside stand on weekends. Her dad passed two years back, and instead of folding, she just… leveled up. Woman doesn’t ask for help. Doesn’t need it.

It started with a chicken.

One of her hens kept finding the gap in my fence and strutting onto my land like she owned the deed. Third time that week, I’m standing there with a roll of barbed wire, muttering about pressing charges, and May calls over the fence:

“She’s not trespassing. She’s checking if your fence is even in the right place.”

I told her maybe she should teach her chicken some property law.

May just picked the bird up, calm as anything, and said, “Or you could learn something from her. Sometimes you don’t need to be afraid of a boundary to cross it.”
