Soursop, also known as graviola or guanabana, is a tropical fruit recognized for its creamy white flesh, distinctive sweet-and-sour flavor, and large black seeds. The fruit is commonly enjoyed fresh or used in smoothies, juices, desserts, and refreshing drinks. In some traditional practices, soursop leaves have also been prepared as a warm herbal tea.
To prepare a simple soursop leaf drink, start by washing 2–3 fresh leaves thoroughly. Add the leaves to about 2 cups of water and simmer gently for 5–7 minutes. Remove from the heat and allow the drink to cool for a few minutes before straining. It can be served warm or chilled.
The fruit itself can be prepared even more simply. Wash the soursop, cut it open, and scoop out the soft white flesh. Carefully remove the black seeds before eating or blending. The flesh can be mixed with cold water or milk to create a creamy homemade smoothie, or added to healthy desserts and fruit drinks.
