While shoplifting arrests are hardly unusual, Quast’s booking photo quickly became the subject of discussion online after people noticed what they believed was a striking resemblance between her and international superstar Jennifer Lopez.
The mugshot began circulating on social media, with users comparing Quast’s facial features to those of the singer and actress. Before long, the alleged resemblance had become the main talking point surrounding the case.
The arrest that sparked the online attention
According to reports, the incident happened at a store in Monticello, Minnesota. Quast was accused of taking two double packs of power-tool batteries, with the combined value reportedly coming to around $580.
A store employee reportedly recognized Quast from an alleged theft that had taken place two days earlier. Police were contacted, and Quast was subsequently arrested.
The underlying allegation attracted relatively little attention on its own. What happened after her booking, however, was very different.
Once Quast’s mugshot began appearing online, social media users quickly focused on her appearance. Many commenters said they were surprised by how much she appeared to resemble Jennifer Lopez.
The comparison spread rapidly, with some users posting side-by-side images and others making jokes about the possibility that the woman could be a Lopez look-alike.
Of course, a resemblance between two people does not mean that they are related or connected in any way. In this case, the comparison was simply an observation made by social media users after seeing Quast’s booking photograph.
