“She fainted? She’ll live. 0ur flight with your sister leaves at six,” Dad said, and they went. I spent nine days in that ward alne. They str0lled back demanding to sign me out.

Everything about it made the anxious part of my brain scream.

Lily begged.

“There’ll be teachers with us the whole time. Room checks at ten. I’ll call every night.”

I said no.

She kept asking.

Then she finished the school year with straight A’s.

Eventually, I gave in.

“You call me every evening.”

“I will.”
