I kissed the top of her head and thought. Finally, our family was complete.
I had no idea we were about to lose its shape entirely.

In the weeks that followed, Claire drifted through the house like a ghost with a swollen belly.
She snapped at the boys over cereal spills. Left dinners untouched. Stared at the crib in the nursery like it was something she couldn’t quite recognize.
The only place she came back to herself was after prenatal yoga.
« If you want. »
She’d come home humming, sometimes even laughing.
« I want to see what helps you, » I told her one Saturday. « Let me come with you. »
