And now, apparently, there was no reception.
Tristan stepped into the doorway just as I lowered the phone. His face went white when I told him.
I put the call on speaker so the manager could explain it again: someone had called the day before, confirmed our account details, and canceled everything. The venue believed it was authorized because the caller knew enough to sound legitimate.
That caller was Linda. His mother.
Tristan’s jaw tightened. He called her on the spot.
She picked up on the second ring and didn’t even try to deny it.
“Mom, did you cancel our reception?”
“Yes,” she said. Just like that. No apology. No hesitation.
“That reception was ridiculous,” Linda continued. “I’m saving my son almost $9,000. You’ll thank me someday.”
Tristan exploded. “What is wrong with you? This is our wedding!”
