My Sister Refused To Tip THE Pizza Delivery Driver Because the Store Charged a Large Delivery Fee. Does The Fee Count as the Tip??

Even when drivers receive some compensation from the company, tips may still represent an important part of their total earnings.

Because policies vary, the delivery fee listed on a receipt does not tell customers exactly how much the driver is being paid. The most reliable approach is to check the restaurant’s policy or ask the store directly.

3. Do People Still Tip on Delivery Orders?

Yes. Tipping delivery drivers remains common, even when an order includes a delivery fee.

Many customers leave approximately 15% to 20% of the bill, although practices vary by location, order size, and personal circumstances. For a small order, some people prefer to leave a minimum tip of around $3 to $5 rather than calculating a percentage.

Customers may also tip more when the delivery requires extra effort, such as traveling a long distance, carrying a large order, climbing several flights of stairs, or driving through difficult weather.

The general expectation remains that a delivery fee pays for access to the delivery service, while a tip recognizes the driver’s personal service.

4. Is It Wrong Not to Tip?

Tipping is generally optional unless a gratuity has already been added to the bill. Customers are not usually legally required to leave one.

However, many people view tipping as an important way to acknowledge the driver’s time and effort. Delivery drivers may have to deal with traffic, parking problems, bad weather, complicated addresses, and the cost of maintaining a vehicle.

Choosing not to tip may save the customer a few dollars, but it can also reduce the driver’s overall earnings.

That does not mean customers must ignore their own budgets. Extra fees can make delivery surprisingly expensive, and not everyone can afford a large tip. Still, when possible, leaving a reasonable gratuity is a direct way to recognize the person who brought the order.
