Those were my father’s last words before leaving me on Grandpa Arthur’s porch.

I was five.

My life fit into three trash bags as I clutched a stuffed rabbit and watched my parents drive away with my little sister.

“Is Mommy coming back?”

Grandpa looked at their disappearing car.

Then he crouched beside me.

“You’ve got me now, kiddo.”

And I did.
