Five days. He had been here for five days.
I turned toward the sink and found it overflowing with plates, takeout containers, and about nine mugs.
There were even used tea bags sitting in the drain.
When I opened the fridge, I found it completely empty. That part didn’t bother me. He could eat whatever he wanted while he was staying with us.
But the coffee machine wouldn’t turn on.
Still won’t.
He had left this message before leaving, « Heading out, left the keys with your neighbor. »
Dan stood in the middle of it with his phone already out.
« I’m calling him right now. Don’t worry about any of this, Tori; you’re not cleaning it. I’ll get somebody in. »
« Don’t call him. »
