I crouched beside him.

The edges were curled and yellow with age. In the picture, there was a little boy sitting at a school cafeteria table.
He couldn’t have been more than nine or ten.
He was thin.
Too thin.
His elbows were sharp beneath his shirt sleeves, and his cheeks looked hollow.
But what caught my attention wasn’t the boy.
