Passengers who had impatiently checked their watches only minutes before were now watching from their seats. Airline employees spoke quietly into radios. Two airport police officers had arrived beside the gate, while another stood near the woman’s designer suitcase.
But I hardly noticed any of them.
My focus remained on Lily.
The little girl was still clutching my sleeve.
Her blue eyes seemed far too serious for a five-year-old.

She nodded.
