Part 2: When the Bully Lost Control

I released Derek and stepped back. He immediately started shouting that I had attacked him and reached toward the coffee table for his phone, threatening to call the police, but the confidence in his voice had already cracked. For perhaps the first time in years, intimidation had failed to control the room.

“You assaulted me! I’m calling the cops.”

I stopped the confrontation from escalating and pointed toward Sarah.

“Sit down. Put your feet up.”

“Sit down, Sarah.”

She obeyed, although her eyes remained fixed on Derek as if she still expected punishment for doing something without his permission. Even with me standing between them, she was measuring every movement against his temper, and that told me how deeply he had trained her to fear his reactions.

Then I pointed toward the scrub brush he had ordered her to use.

“You wanted the floor clean? Then you clean it.”
