The Birthday Tradition Grandma Left Behind

« You did it again. »

« Of course I did. »

A bank deposit receipt slipped out.

I looked at the coat hanging beside the back door. Brown wool, older than some of my friends, with three visible patches.

« You need a new coat. »

« I’ve got a coat, Margot dear. »

« It has three patches. »

« Then it’s got three good repairs. »
