My husband walked through the door after two in the morning carrying the unmistakable scent of another woman’s perfume.

He leaned down to kiss my forehead.

I moved slightly.

His lips landed against my hair instead.

He either didn’t notice or no longer cared enough to notice.

“Thain.”

He stopped.

My voice remained calm.

“It seems she’s better at keeping you beside her than I am.”

For the first time that night, he became completely motionless.

Slowly, he turned around.
