My heart started pounding so hard I could feel it in my throat.
Ten minutes earlier, I’d been worried about whether my shift manager was going to send me home early because lunch traffic was slow.
Now some stranger old enough to be my grandfather was sitting in my section asking me to marry his son like he was ordering coffee.
I leaned in closer, lowering my voice.
