After the divorce, I had no one left to lean on. Because of the child growing inside me, I swallowed my pride and did every j0b I could find. On the day I went into lab0r, I drove myself to the hospital, trembling through every red light.

Then his eyes filled with tears.

“This…” he whispered. “This shouldn’t be possible.”

I was too exhausted to understand what he meant.

My hair was damp with sweat.

My hands were shaking.

My body felt like it had been pushed past every limit it had.

That morning, I had driven myself to the hospital before sunrise, one hand gripping the steering wheel while the other rested against my stomach.

“Please wait,” I kept whispering to my baby.
