After Dylan left, I confronted Richard.
“He wasn’t doing anything wrong.”
“I don’t like people looking through my belongings.”
“He was helping.”
“That boy notices too much.”
A week later, Dylan spotted a metal lockbox hidden behind old paint cans.
“What’s inside?”
Before I could answer, Richard entered, picked it up, and carried it away.
“Nothing that concerns you.”
At the time, I assumed Richard was simply private.
